Among large hospitals with 250+ beds, the list includes Wellstar West Georgia in Lagrange, and both St. Francis-Emory Healthcare and Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown in Columbus. For hospitals with fewer than 100 beds, Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside was also recognized.

Piedmont Columbus Regional has two area hospitals in the Top 25. Daniel Purcell/Now Georgia.

“At Piedmont, we have been able to demonstrate the value of a large, integrated system by improving quality and reducing cost via scale. We have increased access to care in every community, rural or urban, wealthy or poor, that we have entered. While we have driven improvements in quality, we have also methodically looked for opportunities to reduce healthcare costs and gain the operating efficiencies associated with our scale. We are proud that the high-performance of our system and individual hospitals is recognized in this list,” in a statement provided by Piedmont Hospital.

According to National Institutes of Health (NIH), good healthcare is a major factor in relocation decisions for many people, influencing moves for lifestyle, retirement, or to manage chronic conditions, with priorities including access, quality, cost, insurance, and the reputation of local hospitals or providers. It’s a key concern for individuals and families, often competing with career opportunities, and drives moving toward areas with better health infrastructure, cleaner environments, and balanced living.
