DEMOREST, Ga. — Northeast Georgia Medical Center hospitals in Demorest and Gainesville have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report for excellence in maternity care, earning national designations in the publication’s 2026 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care rankings.
Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham in Demorest and Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville were both rated High Performing in maternity care, placing them among a select group of hospitals nationwide recognized for strong outcomes for mothers and newborns.
The High Performing designation reflects quality measures that include lower rates of unexpected complications, fewer unnecessary cesarean deliveries and support for breastfeeding and maternal health. The ratings are intended to help expectant families compare hospitals based on performance and outcomes related to labor and delivery.
In addition to the quality designation, both hospitals were also recognized as Maternity Care Access facilities, a distinction awarded to hospitals that provide obstetric services in communities where access to maternity care may be limited.
According to U.S. News, Georgia saw more than double the number of hospitals earn maternity care recognition this year compared with last year, with NGMC Habersham and NGMC Gainesville among those highlighted statewide.
The annual rankings evaluate hospitals using publicly available data and hospital-submitted information, focusing on safety, outcomes and practices that impact maternal and newborn health.
