EASTANOLLEE, Ga. — A South Carolina man who had been evading law enforcement for three years was captured Thursday in Stephens County after deputies stopped a truck in Eastanollee. The arrest also led officers to another wanted fugitive nearby.

Traffic stop ends three-year search

Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit stopped a GMC commercial truck around 1:43 p.m. October 9 on Swilling Road. Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office and the FBI North Georgia Major Offenders Task Force assisted in the stop.

Inside the truck was Cody Price, 30, of Westminster, South Carolina. Investigators say Price was wanted on several felony warrants from multiple South Carolina agencies, including S.C. Parole & Supervision and the sheriff’s offices in Pickens, Anderson, and Oconee counties.

Price had managed to stay hidden for three years, reportedly slipping away from officers several times.

When deputies approached the vehicle, Price allegedly gave a false name and birthdate before trying to run. After a brief foot chase and struggle, deputies caught and handcuffed him. Officers say he was carrying several South Carolina IDs that did not belong to him in an attempt to hide his identity.

Price was booked into the Stephens County Jail. He faces local charges of felony obstruction and giving false information to law enforcement while awaiting extradition to South Carolina.

He was arrested without incident and taken to the Stephens County Jail.
