Tropical Storm Jerry forms over Atlantic

Hurricane season isn’t over just yet. We have our newest named storm Jerry, once again over the central Atlantic. As of Tuesday evening Jerry contained maximum winds of 50MPH. The storm is moving west at 23MPH, a blistering pace for a tropical system.

Jerry will also become the latest storm to remain well out to sea. It is expected to reach hurricane strength by Wednesday afternoon and most likely top out as a Category 1 or perhaps Category 2 storm late this weekend or early next week.

Closer to home a strong low pressure system is expected to develop off the southeast coast this weekend. It is expected to remain connected to fronts and thus remain a non-tropical low. Still, strong winds and heavy rains are likely along much of the North Carolina coastline. Showers and gusty winds are possible for much of the South Carolina coast as well.
