The Demorest City Council will hold a work session and regular meeting back-to-back on Tuesday, Oct. 7, starting at 6 p.m. at the Demorest Municipal Conference Center. The meetings will focus on infrastructure, downtown development, and fiscal planning for the coming year.

During the work session, city officials will discuss a maintenance cost analysis for the Bear Gap water tank, the proposed creation of a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) director position for Kari Goemans, and an addendum to the city’s contract with Blake Rainwater and Associates related to City Hall improvements. Other discussion items include a proposed single-event pour permit for Piedmont University, rental agreements for public facilities, an $11,874.93 invoice from Consolidated Pipe, and a new contract with Southern Prosperity. The council will also review a letter from the City of Baldwin regarding its proposed water rate increase and continue early talks on the fiscal year 2026 budget.

Immediately following the work session, the council’s regular meeting will feature formal consideration of those same agenda items, beginning with a public hearing and opportunities for citizen comment. City Manager Mark Mussellwhite is expected to present his monthly report and review of financials, and the council may enter executive session if needed.

Last month, the council approved concept plans for a new City Hall parking lot and police department facility—projects that are expected to influence budget priorities heading into 2026.
