It was a strong week for local athletics, with Stephens County football grabbing a key region win, Dawson County softball bouncing back in dominant fashion, Tallulah Falls volleyball continuing its rise, and Jefferson cross country making its mark at a major meet.
Football – Stephens County Indians
The Stephens County Indians pushed out a 24-20 win at home against an undefeated Franklin County. It was a statement as Stephens opened region play with a win and got back to .500. They’ve been the most successful team against Jefferson (aside from North Oconee) and have been in every game.
Softball – Dawson County Lady Tigers
The Dawson County softball team went 3-1 last week, beating Flowery Branch, Chestatee, and White County by a combined 38-13 score even when you put in the first loss to White. Dawson avenged that quickly after.
Volleyball – Tallulah Falls Lady Indians
The #4-ranked Lady Indians went a perfect 3-0 last week, beating George Walton, Loganville Christian, and Bethlehem Christian. The second and third team on that list were state-ranked in the top-10. All three wins were 3-0 finals, and TFS secured a region championship in the process.
Boys & Girls XC – Jefferson
The Dragons and Lady Dragons share the honors this week. The girls were first and boys second at the Granite City Invitational. In the 3-mile format, William Malueg was first and Ben Schroeder seventh for the boys. Hannah Schroeder was second, Lily Whitmire fourth, and Lyla Mann eighth for the girls.
