Pregame was all about Rabun County legend Gunner Stockton, who had his jersey retired. The air apparent to Stockton, Ty Truelove, had a career night with three touchdown passes and two rushing in a lopsided 35–0 win for #4 Rabun County (5-0, 1-0 in 1A DI) over Banks County (0-5, 0-1).
The Wildcats scored on their opening drive when Ty Truelove fired a ball to Reid Giles for a 12-yard score. Giles and JK Fruster had led the march upfield with big runs as well. Banks County bled out the last eight minutes of the first on a long drive that went into the second. The Rabun defense held strong outside the red zone with a turnover on downs.
Banks returned the favor by forcing and recovering a fumble when the Wildcats started getting close to the red zone. On the next Rabun drive, Truelove again connected with Giles, this time for a 19-yard TD to pad the lead to 14-0 about midway through the second.
Rabun County opened it up in the second half. It started with the first drive finding pay dirt with Truelove’s third TD pass, this time to Reed Burrell for a 12-yard score. Banks County turned it over on downs several times, and once on a fumble. Rabun County capitalized on short fields, as Truelove tacked on a 5-yard TD run in which he ran from one side of the field to the other before powering in for the 28-0 lead as the third quarter’s buzzer sounded.
In the final quarter, Truelove added a 69-yard TD run to put the game on ice at 35-0 late. Truelove had a hand in all five scores, while Giles accounted for two.
