The city of Auburn, Alabama is ramping up security at local parks. The Parks and Recreation Department is actively collaborating with the Auburn Police Department to continue enhancing security features and capabilities in multiple city parks and facilities. In the near future, citizens may see additional equipment deployed for this purpose.

The announcement comes less than a week after a retired Auburn professor was attacked and killed in broad daylight at Kiesel Park. Dr. Julie Schnuelle was walking her dog last Saturday morning when she was stabbed to death.
“While it’s not possible to completely cover every area of all of our park properties with video surveillance, personnel and technology, we are always committed to finding ways to improve safety and security throughout Auburn,” said Public Safety Director Will Mathews. “I’d like to remind everyone that our best protection continues to be the eyes and ears, keen observations and willingness to report suspicious activity by our friends and neighbors,” Mathews added.
The Auburn Police Department encourages anyone that observes suspicious behavior or incidents to call 911 or the non-emergency number, 334-501-3100 to provide that information.
