Habersham County Emergency Services responded early Friday morning to a tractor-trailer fire that disrupted traffic along State Highway 365 at the Tommy Irvin interchange.
The fire was reported around 3:35 a.m. on Sept. 12 with multiple fire units responding.
According to Habersham County Emergency Services, firefighters arrived to find the trailer of a commercial truck hauling frozen chicken engulfed in flames.
Investigators say the fire appears to have started in the trailer’s wheel axles before spreading. Firefighters used between 2,500 and 3,000 gallons of water mixed with Class A foam to bring the blaze under control.
The driver managed to disconnect the tractor from the burning trailer before emergency personnel arrived, preventing further damage, officials said. No injuries were reported.
The trailer, which was fully loaded, sustained heavy damage. Cleanup and recovery crews remained on site through much of the morning offloading the chicken so that the damaged trailer could be towed away.
