An off-duty Muscogee County Sheriff’s Deputy saved a driver just moments before colliding with an oncoming train. The driver of the vehicle was his fellow deputy’s dad according to a Facebook post by Sheriff Greg Countryman.

On September 9, 2025, Deputy Marcus Street’s father was traveling on Macon Road, near Garrett Road, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle traveling approximately 80 MPH. This knocked his vehicle onto a railroad tie on the railroad tracks at Ingrillis Road.
Sergeant Earl Osbon was off-duty and witnessed the scene as it was taking place. He rushed to the vehicle to provide aid. The passenger was able to be extracted from the vehicle, but the driver had suffered injuries, and it was advised not to move him until paramedics arrived by a nurse on scene.

Sgt. Osbon attempted to have dispatch make contact with the railroad company, but that was unsuccessful. A train was seen traveling towards them that was sure to hit the vehicle. Flagging down the conductor was not working. Law enforcement had not yet arrived, and Sgt. Osbon made the decision to extract Deputy Street’s father from the vehicle by picking him up from the seat with both arms. This was extremely difficult due to the position of the vehicle and the sharp incline up to the tracks. The door would not stay open.
Sgt. Osbon was then assisted by two good Samaritans (Tyler Routen and Bobby Gray), who each took up one of the driver’s legs to help get him to safety before the train came.
Sgt. Osbon fell on the way down but ensured the driver did not suffer further injury. He yelled to the two pedestrians to get Mr. Street to safety. They did so, just as the train hit the car, placing Sgt. Osbon in danger of being struck.
Thankfully, everyone involved was safe and spared further injury. Deputy Street’s father was discharged from the hospital and is doing okay. Thanks to Sgt. Osbon’s selfless actions and quick thinking, a possible tragedy was prevented.
