GSP identifies driver killed in I-85 tractor-trailer crash

Interstate temporarily shut down

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia State Patrol has released the name of the driver killed in a tractor-trailer crash on I-85 in Franklin County on Wednesday. The wreck shut down the southbound lanes for several hours.

GSP Sgt. Camran Fleming says 44-year-old Reinaldo Negron of New Jersey died in the accident, which occurred around 7:40 a.m. on September 10.

Georgia State Patrol Troopers from Post 52 in Hartwell responded to the single-vehicle crash near mile marker 176, north of the Lavonia exit. According to the initial investigation, a yellow 2012 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling in the right lane when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the east shoulder and struck the cable barrier.

The impact caused the truck to overturn onto its driver’s side. It then crossed the interstate, striking a guardrail on the west shoulder before rotating clockwise and coming to rest across the southbound lanes.

Negron was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing
