Rabun County municipal races set for November; Dillard and Tallulah Falls elections canceled

(NowHabersham.com)

Rabun County voters will see contested municipal races on the November 4 ballot in three cities — Clayton, Mountain City, and Sky Valley. Elections in Dillard and Tallulah Falls have been canceled after all candidates qualified without opposition.

There are no elections in Tiger this year; their entire city council, including the mayor, will be up for election in two years.

All of the municipal races in Rabun County are non-partisan. Here’s a look at who is running and who has already won.

Clayton

Clayton will have a new mayor this fall following the resignation of former Mayor Kurt Cannon earlier this year. Roy Quilliams qualified unopposed and is set to take over the role. Two city council seats are also on the ballot. Channing Watts and Mark Gregory Fairchild will face off in the Post 1 City Council race. Colt Woodall is unopposed for Post 2.

Dillard

With no challengers for any city offices, Dillard’s municipal election has been canceled.

Incumbent Mayor Claude Dillard will continue in that role. Jeffrey W. Harris will assume the Post 3 City Council seat, and Tremaine E. Wilson is the newly elected Post 5 City Council member.

Mountain City

Mountain City voters will decide one contested council race this November. Ralph Welch and William R. Fountain are both seeking the Post 3 City Council seat.  Incumbent Mayor Brenda S. Hooper is unopposed.

Sky Valley

Sky Valley is the political hotspot this year with competitive races for both mayor and city council.

For mayor, incumbent Hollie Steil faces challenger Benita Cotton-Orr, while seven candidates are running for three open city council seats.

Incumbent Sky Valley councilmembers Daniel McAfee and Bruce K. Turner are trying to hold onto two of the three seats that will be up for election. Five others are also running. They are Dee Van Camp, Carey Alexander Beasley, Beth Quarles Pence, Jesse Price, and Jonathon Smith.

Sky Valley voters may cast ballots for up to three council candidates. The top three vote-getters win.

Tallulah Falls

As in Dillard, Tallulah Falls will not hold a municipal election this year. Two Tallulah Falls City Council seats were up for election. With no opposition, council candidates Gerald Michael Urpschot and Scott Augustine are deemed elected.
