Habersham County has once again received national recognition for excellence in financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the county its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
The award is based on the county’s annual comprehensive financial report, which an impartial panel judged to meet the GFOA’s high standards. These include a “spirit of full disclosure” and a clear presentation of the county’s financial story—aimed at engaging citizens and stakeholders.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. According to GFOA, its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management team.
Interim Finance Director Kiani Holden said the Finance Department is “extremely proud” of their achievement. She emphasized the critical importance of the county’s annual audit on several fronts.
“The county’s audit is tremendously important to show the financial health of the county and compliance with financial regulations,” she said. “Without a clean audit, our efforts in applying and being awarded grants would not be possible.”
Holden added that the Finance Department’s mission is “to drive financial excellence by providing accurate and timely financial information and safeguarding county assets for the benefit of all citizens and staff members.”
