A 19-year-old Gainesville man has been charged in connection with a deadly crash that claimed the life of a 35-year-old passenger last week.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, Jose Ruben Acosta Turcios was behind the wheel of a 2010 Infiniti G37 on April 24 when authorities say he was driving at a high rate of speed along Aviation Boulevard.

Investigators say Turcios lost control of the vehicle, which struck multiple fixed objects before overturning. His passenger, Paquito Turcios Galvez, 35, was killed in the crash.

Following the incident, police allege that Turcios attempted to hinder the investigation by providing false information about the circumstances of the crash.

He now faces multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle, obstruction, reckless driving, racing, failure to maintain lane, driving too fast for conditions and driving on the wrong side of the road.
